Why should I become a mentor?
The reasons for joining the program are personal to each mentor. For many, it is a personal conviction to serve others in their community.

What should I consider prior to becoming a mentor?
The foundations of this program are the relationships of the mentors and the students. As with any relationship, the ability to connect with individual students is centered upon trust that is built up over time.

What are the time commitments associated with the program?
The mentor program meets on Saturday mornings for approximately 2-3 hours twice a month. Depending on the location of the event, using public transportation can add an additional one to one-and-a-half hours travel time each way. We understand that it is not always possible to schedule around personal commitments.  However, we ask that prospective mentors consider that their time and attention are important to these students.

What kinds of events has this group organized in the past?

Do I have to commit right away?
We in fact encourage prospective mentors to first talk to existing mentors about their experiences with the program. The next step is usually to accompany one or more mentors to a scheduled event. This “test drive” allows the prospective mentor to take part in the activities, meet the team and, most importantly, meet some of the students.

How do I become a mentor?
The program has an application process for both the students and mentors.  If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please note that the program operates based on academic semesters, September through May and new applicants are only considered at the beginning of each semester. The application process is finalized in mid October for the fall and late January for the spring.
